During check-in, the desk clerk was warm and engaging. When the clerk noticed that this reviewer was a local resident, he solicited my advice for any improvements or suggestions for this "new hotel." The paperwork and processing took less than three minutes.
The public areas of the hotel have a cozy "botique" style with conversation-inducing seating and even a 24-hour convenience eatery featuring ice cream from Starbucks and Ben & Jerry (plus dozens of other tempting indulgences). The indoor pool and fitness center are clean and well-appointed. Plus, the hotel offers an envious business center for the highly coveted business traveler.
However, a hotel has to be judged most on its rooms. To get a full look at the building, this reviewer took the stairs from the first floor to the second using an oddly inviting staircase. Then, I took the large and substantial elevator to my third-floor room.
The room itself was much larger than expected with two closets, a large desk and a beautiful king-size bed with four pillows. A widescreen Samsung TV sat on a large cabinet fixture that offered storage space and a carefully tucked away mini-frig and microwave. Two telephones (one on the desk and one on the bed) were efficiently marked with 10 dedicated buttons below the keypad for all of the items needed by travelers. Desk lamps lit the desk and two more surrounded the bed. The entrance hall offered a ceiling light.
The king-size bed was supremely comfortable, and the Gideon's Bible and alarm clock were present at the bedside table. The room was also not at a loss for seating, and the room offered a normal (but comfortable) sitting chair, tan leather desk chair and a large and comfy reading armchair. It must be mentioned that the wireless and wired internet was easy to use and the iron and ironing board were perfectly placed.
The hotel room bathroom offered Vaseline Intensive Care lotion and Pantene hair care products along with quality body and face soaps. The bath and shower offered two showerheads that functioned well. The art on the wall was somewhat uninspired but is probably well-suited to the room because it is difficult to please all guests with the same art. However, each of the three pictures (over the desk, above the bed and in the hallway) were placed in quality frames and had a substantial look.
At check-in, I was informed that Country Inn & Suites has very few hotels in the surrounding area although the brand is nationwide. However, it plans to expand in the Four States area. Based on my visit to the surprisingly comfortable and inviting Texarkana location, that's a very good thing indeed. FourStates.com
