OBU alumnus named newest Tiger Marching Band director

Ouachita Baptist University Marching Band
Ouachita Baptist University has named one of its own as the new athletic band director and instrumental music education director.

The new marching band director, Jim Lloyd, said he was excited to return to his alma mater and that "great things" were on the horizon for the award winning music program. Ouachita President Ben Sells said OBU has one of the best bands in the country for a university of its size and that Lloyd was the right person to lead the band into the future.

The university really looked close to home because Jim Lloyd previously led the Arkadelphia High School Marching Band to the Arkansas AAAA marching band championship for the past three years. It seems likely he will want to bring some of his award winning high school students with him to Ouachita as well.

Dr. Craig Hamilton, Ouachita’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands, said students will "benefit greatly" from Jim Lloyd's skill and expertise.

Lloyd was humbled by the job offer: "Ouachita is such a special place to me and my family,” he said. “I hope to carry on the proud traditions of the Tiger Marching Band while adding some contemporary ideas of my own."

The new athletic band director said getting the job at OBU "feels like coming home."

Welcome home, Jim Lloyd. We wish you much success.
